Communication and Computer Access

A Blogger's Insight:

Communication & Computer Access

Throughout the next couple of weeks, I am going to be switching gears a bit (ONLY because I feel we have mastered the concept of UDL)! If, however, you are just now following along, UDL is basically teaching to all students while meeting each of their needs in the classroom using assisted technologies.

Okay - now that we are all caught up - for the next few weeks, we are going to be exploring two topics that go hand-in-hand; communication and computers.  According to a popular website, Digitizeme: 21st Century Fluences, "In today's society, the role of computers has changed the way one interacts with one another."  This statement is especially valid when reflecting on the uses of computers in the classroom.  Within a classroom, computers have more than just one role.  For instance, not only can computers be used to reinforce a topic and content material, but actually aid in a student's ability to take part in the lesson itself.  What does this mean exactly?  Well, I don't want to give all of the information out with the first blog.  As we continue to peel back the layers of communication and computer access, we will revisit this question and reflect on our findings.  Remember: Stay involved but commenting below!!  Any questions that are left in the comment area, I can search and blog about.

 See you soon!!

  1. Hey April,

I'm excited to explore that website too! Before this class I didn't realize how much that statement applies to the classroom! I would have just thought to myself, yes people are texting and emailing and blogging, etc. With what I'm learning so far it remarkable how much the role of computers are changing the lives of people and students with special needs as well as families and educators who interact with these students and who are able to learn more about them with new types of communication. Really cool!

  2. April,
I agree with the quote you included in this post. The role of computers in today's society has definitely impacted the way we interact with one another. It is amazing all of the possibilities and opportunities technology opens up in the classroom for regular education and especially special education. I love that sometimes just by adding a little technology, everyone can have access to the learning!
